Île-Bizard Addition 1
Completed 2011

This project consists of a garage addition and major renovations to reorganise the ground floor and refresh the look of a house built in the 1970s on a beautiful site on the shore of Lake of Two Mountains. The existing house, clad in fieldstone and vinyl siding, was poorly insulated and disconnected from its garden and the views towards the lake to the north. The renovations transformed the interior and exterior, opening the rear of the house onto a large terrace facing the lake, accessible through large sliding doors and windows. The original kitchen and powder room / laundry room were relocated to open up the rear of the house, and a service area was created between the garage in the front, the kitchen in the rear and the main entrance. The relocated entrance welcomes visitors into a warm and inviting hall before revealing the rest of the house to them. On the exterior a band of dark brick sits below a band of light-coloured wood siding. The new garage is integrated under the roof slopes of the house, whose eaves were extended to protect the windows of the house for solar gains in the summer. Taking advantage of the renovation work planned, the insulation and airtightness of the entire house were improved. This project was completed in collaboration with engineers Calculatec and with the clients as construction managers.
