Le Nichoir - Wild Bird Rehabilitation Centre
Designed 2014

Le Nichoir is a non-profit organisation that operates the largest wild bird rehabilitations centre in Canada. Since its foundation Le Nichoir occupies a small barn built in 1837 located at the entrance to the Clark Sydenham nature reserve in Hudson. The barn will take on new functions and Le Nichoir will build a new centre that will permit it to operate year-round, providing treatment to injured or orphaned wild birds before they are released back into their natural environment. The Centre is designed to permit a significant expansion to the educational program of Le Nichoir while ensuring the welfare of the birds. The desire to provide visual access to the birds for the public and the critical need for natural daylight in all the spaces inspired the Centre’s layout, and the shape and cladding of the Centre are modern interpretations of the barn. Due to its mission and its location on a nature reserve, the Centre reflects the environmental considerations of Le Nichoir in its high energy efficiency, its sensitivity to water consumption and recovery, the use of healthy, local materials, etc. For more information about the organisation please visit their website at: http://lenichoir.org.
