Île Bizard Renovation 1
Completed 2013

This project is a complete transformation of a two-storey house located on an attractive and private wooded lot. The existing house was insufficiently insulated and poorly organized on the ground floor, cut into small spaces that were hard to furnish, and the exterior was clad in white vinyl siding with a mansard roof. The new layout reorients the stair, separates the woodworking shop from the house proper and improves the connection between the interior spaces and the garden. On the ground floor the main entrance was enlarged to create a large vestibule and closets, and an exposed post and beam structure allows the main living spaces to be opened up while grouping the living room, dining room and kitchen around the open staircase. The relocation and addition of windows create a coherent interior-exterior dialogue and create a generously sunlit interior. A new window bay in the dining room provides views into the garden. A new painted wood cladding renews the look of the house's exterior and allowed the installation of a new sprayed insulation which greatly improved the house's air-tightness and energy efficiency. This project was completed in collaboration with engineers Calculatec and with the clients as construction managers.
