Plateau-Mont-Royal Renovation 1
Completed 2008

This renovation converted a typical L-shaped apartment on the Plateau, demolishing many of the interior divisions which allowed very little natural light into the living spaces of the apartment. The aim of the renovations was to open the house up and provide for greater access to daylight. The renovated apartment has fewer enclosed spaces, now including only the main bedroom and guest bedroom, bathroom and storage space. The rest of the interior was opened by replacing the central bearing wall with an exposed post and beam structure that helps organize and define the space, which is divided into a living room, dining room and kitchen. The open space enjoys good cross-ventilation and access to light through new doors and windows, including a large patio door that provides access to a new rear terrace. The work included the design of a new kitchen, the replacement of the floor finishes and improvements to the heating. This project was completed in collaboration with engineers Calculatec and with general contractor DHMR.
