Rosemont Renovation 1
Completed 2008

This project converted an existing duplex into a cottage.  The layout places the main living spaces on the ground floor and the quiet spaces on the upper floor. The spaces are developed around an open stair at the centre of the open-plan layout. Set above the stair, a skylight brings daylight down into the centre of the house. The main living spaces are further articulated by the rhythm of the exposed structure of the second floor and the reorganization of the openings in the south-facing rear façade into 3 vertical bands. The structure of the former 2nd floor balcony and the roof overhang were modified to act as sunscreens to moderate and control the sunlight on this façade. On the new rear façade the green and sequoia tones of the fiber cement siding highlights the rhythm of the window openings. Large glass doors connect the interior of the house to the large rear terrace and garden. This project was completed in collaboration with engineers Calculatec and with general contractor Les Constructions Daniel Petrari.
