Description

St-Bruno Renovation 1
Anticipated completion 2015

This renovation transforms the space of an addition to a century-old farmhouse in St-Bruno. The addition, housing an abandoned pool, encloses a magnificent space whose high ceilings, natural light filtering through generous windows and two skylights, as well as its proximity to the private exterior spaces surrounding the house, make it a space that must be made the most of. This large volume becomes a new living space for the family, providing a new play room in the highest, brightest and most convenient part of the space. Floating above this space without hiding the generous proportions of the addition, a new mezzanine provides more intimate space for work or reading. Under the lower-ceilinged part of the addition, tow new bedrooms, a full bathroom and storage space are provided, with additional storage above, accessible from the mezzanine. A steel stair and guardrail are designed to harmonize with the exposed clay brick and wood interiors already present. This project was completed in collaboration with engineers Calculatec and with general contractor Constructions Sodero.
