Villeray Renovation 2
Completed 2000

Minimizing the environmental impact was a major objective of this renovation to the main floor of a triplex, which transformed a warren of small closed rooms on the ground floor into a spacious, sunlit open living space with large windows onto a landscaped garden. Demolition waste was sorted and diverted from the dump and existing building materials were salvaged and reused where possible. New materials and finishes used were durable and non-toxic materials, such as linoleum, straw-board, natural oils, etc. Radiant floor heating in the bathroom and water-efficient fixtures were selected to improve the energy and water efficiency of the house, and the installation of new high performance windows in enlarged openings increased the daylight in the space. This project was completed in collaboration with engineers Calculatec and with general contractor Constructions Melançon.
